The Time of the Nightmare Shroud
May 17th, 1996
It was a time of great prosperity. The wizarding world was on the tip of a new renaissance in understanding and advancement. The oncoming millennium looked to behold a truly golden age in the United Kingdom, and they were seen as world leaders in magic. Their primary educational institution, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had always prided itself on producing the finest scholars and political leaders in the magical world, along with housing the largest collection of magical artifacts in the western hemisphere.
That was until everything changed.
The seat of educational greatness and the promising future that it cultivated in all young wizards and witches, was torn asunder by an explosion of wild, uncontrolled magic. The fatal explosion devastated both the school and Hogsmeade village, killing almost an entire generation of young witches and wizards. Few survived, even fewer survived unscathed.
No cause was ever found for the explosion, and those that did survive did not escape the ravages of wild magic. Some of those exposed to it lost their powers completely, the force and the power of the explosion ripping the magic from them. Others were infused with the wild magic to an extent that they became incredibly powerful and were driven to insanity, forcing them into a life confined in the wall of St. Mungos. Some escaped lightly; they were injured but alive and with their powers intact. For others, something had changed within them and not always for the good.
The school closed that day, the whole area contaminated with wild magic, and over time, those who survived tried to move on with their lives. The wizarding world tried to forget the events that had occurred, along with the entire generation of children they had lost.
For over a decade, the castle stood abandoned, foreboding, and haunted by the tragedy. A tomb, housing the memory of the dead.
Eleven years later, a small group formed, determined to reopen the school and return it to it's former glory. Led by a courageous former professor, four survivors, Cessair Nordstrom, Arthur Napier, Cora Branson, and Lancelot Hawkins have returned to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to reclaim the school and give back to the community what their professors, brothers, sisters, and friends died for. An education, and a world worth fighting for.
If only they could get that pesky minister, Elron Oldevbard, off their backs once and for all.
Don't try to hide. They're screaming your name. The nightmare shroud has fallen.

Skirata: Are you squeamish, General? I mean ethically squeamish.
Etain: I'm a Jedi, Sergeant.
Skirata: Well, that answers a lot of questions I didn't ask.
